The University of Michigan Law School Faculty Bibliography, 1859 to the Present

Michigan has compiled a bibliography of every Michigan Law faculty member since 1859.  For students of legal education and law schools, it's a fascinating document along several dimensions:  (1) one can chart fashions in legal scholarship over the last century; (2) it reminds one that most legal scholarship, even by faculty at top law schools, disappears into oblivion (ask yourself how many of the papers by Michigan faculty in the 1950s, say, are by (a) authors you've heard of, and (b) of contemporary interest); and (3) it provides an interesting institutional history of Michigan itself, recording, as it were, the school's status as one of the top five law schools for much of the postwar period through the 1980s, and then its slippage from that lofty perch in the 1990s, as many of the top faculty retired or migrated elsewhere.
